  1. African-American Scientists
    Grades 5-8 could use this short research project as an introduction to internet research.  The site outlines the process of instructing students in internet research with helpful links to guide students in finding African-American scientists to study.  This would be a good lesson for the teacher who does not have a lot of experience guiding students through internet research.
  2. Girls Ask Why
    The Girls Ask Why website promotes science, technology, and mathematics learning. It also provides access to information about women who are accomplished in the sciences and mathematics. In addition, there is access to a new site for girls called Girls Go Tech.
  3. Invention Dimension
    This web site focuses on inventors and their accomplishments. Along with the archive of inventors, it contains various links related to invention research (Over 200 links)
  4. Inventure Place
    What do George de Mestral and Percy LeBaron Spencer have in common? - Velcro and the microwave oven, respectively. And both are newly inducted (posthumously) members of the National Inventors Hall of Fame.
  5. National Historic Chemical Landmarks New
    Chemistry came of age as a science in the late 1700s-the same time America came of age as a nation. Over the next two centuries, chemists played key roles in expanding the frontiers of knowledge, advancing medicine and industry, and creating products from aspirin to zippers. This site tells their stories.
  6. Nobel Prize Internet Archive (General Information)
    This site has a wealth of information including biography, summaries of major works, and photographs of all Nobel Laureates. Many links of hypertext.
  7. The Invention Dimension: Inventor of the Week Archives
    This is an alphabetical listing of inventors that may also be searched by the invention. It includes pictures of inventions, as well as, the inventor. Places emphasis on gender and various ethnic contributors. Can be used at all levels.

    This site's focus is on inventors and their accomplishments. Contains over 200 links related to invention research.

    This site tells the story of significant contributions women have contributed to the progress of science.
  10. Women In Science
    In this activity, students use Encarta® Encyclopedia and the Internet to learn about women who have made important contributions to the fields of science and advanced technology. Students will demonstrate what they have learned by creating visual displays for an exhibit honoring women in science. Based on these displays, students will write questions to test one another's knowledge on the subject of women in science.

    This site features profiles of many different careers held by women working for NASA.  There is also an extensive list of teaching tips and activities for integrating this site into your curriculum.
