Elementary

  1. E.FE.E.1 Water -"Water is a natural resource and is found under the ground, on the surface of the earth, and in the sky. It exists in three states (liquid, solid, gas) and can go back and forth from one form to another."

    2. Drinking Water for Kids
      This site has activities and information for the following five chapters: Introduction to Water, Drinking Water and Wastewater Treatment, Surface Water Resources, Ground Water Resources, and Wetlands and Coastal Waters.  It is easy to navigate through and has a sourcebook to accompany the information.  Lessons can be printed for use in the classroom.

      This site about the Great Lakes is an excellent support for the 4th grade study of Michigan. It offers a variety of activities, games, jigsaw puzzles, coloring books, general information, quizzes, a glossary of terms and much more. Many links are available to sites about habitat, migration, endangered species, and environmental activities that support local environmental action.
    9. Ground Water Basics
      This site has activities and information about ground water basics.  There are links and resource materials available if desired.  Kids can navigate through the site easily.  Event calendar of activities is also included.
    10. OGWDW - Kid's Page (Drinking Water Activities)
      This site includes a simple activity for building a watercycle and an animated watercycle is available for viewing. Also included is a seasonal "newsletter" called Water Drops which is a collection of fun-facts, games and projects for kids.

      This site has pictures and descriptions of water in it's three states. Also given are some easy experiments and pictures of solid, liquid and gasous water at the molecule level.

    16. The All-Star River Explorers
      This site is designed to introduce students to basics of hydrology and increase their understanding of how rivers are formed and their importance in our lives. Grades 4 - 5.
    17. The Water Cycle
      This site contains an explanation of the water cycle with excellent graphic. It is a student activity.
    18. The Weather Dude
      Outstanding - The "Weather Dude" is a general site with many links. Of particular interest will be the links to the glossary, weather songs, an online weather book and"stuff for teachers". This is a page on the "water cycle" with links to activities for students.
    19. USGS - Groundwater
      Good background information and illustrations about ground water. The information in this program can be broken into two major categories: ground water quantity and ground water quality issues. Quantity issues include such things as: "where does ground water come from?", "how does ground water travel?", "what is ground water used for?", and "how can we preserve ground water supplies?"
    20. Water Science for Schools
      Outstanding - Good informational site including:  uses of water, glossary of water terms, water questions and answers, the earth's water, and water activities.
    21. Water Sources Around the World
      As you click on the ship you will find wonderful pictures of rivers around the world.  Information ranges from the source fo a river, river crossing, and the course of a river.
  2. E.FE.E.2 Water Movement -"Water moves in predictable patterns."
    1. GLOBE Hydrology
      Students will make a 3-dimensional model of a catchment basin to understand how water moves through the basin and explore how water is affected when there are changes in the basin. Information on training sessions can be obtained on the GLOBE site: http://www.globe.gov/
