"The MAITEL degree program was the best professional decision I could have made to transition from teaching into business. I learned the dynamic use of so many different educational technologies and was able to use them with my current students, plus I learned how to successfully address adult learning theory and instructional design principles to think outside of the classroom."

Katherine Fox

Katherine Fox

Contract Instructional Designer, Yazaki North America

My MAITEL degree helped me successfully transfer from teaching music to working as an eLearning designer for top companies. I learned foundational adult learning theory, frameworks, and application. I use this knowledge everyday as I develop learning experiences across various digital media platforms. During my time we focused on learning pertinent technology which provided a pivotal foundation to technology skills I use today. Most of all, my MAITEL degree challenged my critical thinking skills. I use those skills to solve large scale training problems. My SVSU MAITEL degree is one of my best professional decisions!

"A large part of my role is to support educational programming.  In doing so, we do a large amount of project management and planning, during which my practice in the ADDIE and other methods (including Gantt charts) has been extremely beneficial.  Other skills that I practiced in the MAITEL program that I have utilized in my practices here include utilizing technology such as trail cameras with the Director of Conservation for collecting data for research on particular animals (or with summer campers), implementing the use of electronic surveys (and the significance of asking exactly the right questioning) and evaluation, utilizing iPads for citizen science programs, regularly reviewing the accuracy and functionality of our website, writing blogs and articles that may reach from 65,000 to 500,000 viewers on social media, collaborating with colleagues via shared documents and project management databases and distance learning methods (we ARE on an island, after all) and designing professional development and/or workshops for local teachers, colleagues, or ecological collaborators on the island."

"SVSU provided me with an amazing atmosphere to study for my life-long dream of working in Educational Technology.  All of my professors truly cared about me in my path to obtaining my degree.  The class sizes were small, which led to better interaction and an overall better experience.  I am currently in my “Dream Job” and SVSU had a vital impact on getting me to this point."
