Residential Life Staff

Each complex has designated professional and para-professional live-in staff. The most important role of the Residential Life (Res Life) team is to promote a sense of belonging and community in housing facilities.

Resident Directors
Each of the six Resident Directors is assigned to SVSU a residential community:

  • First Year Suites
  • Living Center North
  • Living Center South
  • Living Center Southwest
  • University Village West
  • Pine Grove Community

Resident Directors are full-time professional members of the University staff.  One is on duty at all times, 24 hours per day/365 days per year.   The Resident Directors supervise their staff of Resident Assistants and Diversity Programs Assistants.

Resident Assistants
Resident Assistants are part-time, student employees who live in assigned areas of SVSU housing areas. R.A.s are required to get to know residents, assist residents in getting to know each other, communicate a sense of outreach in order to address the needs of residents and promote accountability among residents for their participation and care for the community. Events and programs are sponsored by the R.A. during the year that are open to all individuals in their house/floor/area. The R.A. is supervised by the Resident Director.

Resident Assistants for Inclusion
The First Year Suites, Living Center North and Living Center Southwest are each assigned a Resident Assistant for Inclusion (RAI).

The First Year Suites, Living Center North and Living Center Southwest each have a Resident Assistant for Inclusion (RAI), an undergraduate para-professional, who resides in the community.  This staff member's role is to provide resources on social justice topics, including but not limited to gender, LGBT, religion and race.  They provide monthly newsletters with information and resources, provide programs and are available to assist students with their success at SVSU.
