Higher Learning Commission Invites Third-Party Comment about Saginaw Valley State University

Saginaw Valley State University underwent a comprehensive evaluation visit on April 7-9, 2014, by a team representing The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.   The Commission is one of six accrediting agencies in the United States that provides institutional accreditation on a regional basis.   It reviewed the University's ongoing ability to meet the Commission's Criteria for Accreditation.  The University has been accredited continuously by the Commission since 1970.

For the past several years, SVSU has engaged in a process of self-study to address the Commission's Criteria for Accreditation.  The Commission's team visited the institution to gather evidence that the self-study is thorough and accurate before recommending to the Commission a continuing status for the University.  Following a review process, the Commission itself will determine the University’s status.

All comments must be received by March 7, 2014.  To be considered, all comments must be in writing and signed, and must address substantive issues related to the quality of the institution or its academic programs.  The comments should include the name, address, and telephone number or email address of the person providing the remarks.  Comments will not be treated as confidential.  The Commission cannot guarantee that comments received after the due date will be considered.

Note: Individuals with a specific dispute or grievance with the University should request the separate Policy on Complaints document from the Commission office.  The Higher Learning Commission cannot settle disputes between institutions and individuals, whether faculty, students, or others.  Complaints will not be considered as third party comments.
