There are major changes and improvements to the 2024–25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form.

The redesigned and streamlined FAFSA form is now available!

NOTE: 2024-25 FAFSA changes are being implemented by the U.S. Department of Education. Information on this webpage is subject to change as new information becomes available. If you are having difficulties using the new FAFSA, please contact Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1(800) 433-3243. Hours of operation are Monday - Friday: 8 am - 10 pm (ET); Saturday 11 am - 5 pm (ET). Closed Sunday and all federal holidays.

What You Need To Know Now

The 2024–25 FAFSA form will expand eligibility for federal student aid. 

  • 610,000 new students from low-income backgrounds will be eligible to receive Federal Pell Grants due to updates to student aid calculations. 
  • Use the Federal Student Aid Estimator to get an early estimate of what your federal student aid could be after submitting the new form. 

The 2024–25 FAFSA form will offer a new, streamlined user experience for students and their families. 

  • Applicants will be able to skip as many as 26 FAFSA questions, depending on their individual circumstances. Some applicants will need to complete as few as 18 questions, taking less than 10 minutes.

What You Can Do Now

  • If you’ve never created a StudentAid.gov account, create it now by clicking HERE.  Make note of your username and passwordIt may take up to three days for your account to be verified and available to complete the 2024-25 application. 
  • Find out if your parent(s) or spouse will need to be contributors (contribute their info on your FAFSA form). 
  • If your parent(s) or spouse will need to contribute to your form, make sure each contributor creates their own StudentAid.gov account. Even if a contributor doesn’t have a Social Security number, they will be able to create an account.
  • Watch the video (below) to understand what information and documents you’ll need to fill out the FAFSA form.

  • If you’ve previously created a StudentAid.Gov account, you are now able to Log In and complete the 2024-25 FAFSA application.

  • In the first week of the launch, the StudentAid.gov website was periodically down as the Department of Education monitored user experienceThe FAFSA is now available 24 hours each day, barring periodic maintenance to allow technical updates, as needed, to provide a better user experience. 
  • Federal Student Aid will not be transmitting FAFSA results to schools until the end of January, 2024It is possible this may be delayed further to allow an update to the student aid calculation to include the cost of inflation, which will result in better outcomes for students.
