"The Certified Public Manager (CPM) course has significantly increased my knowledge of public workings. The program has improved my awareness of many topics ranging from the impact of Michigan's historical beginnings through the Detroit riots to the economic crisis of today. As a small business owner, an elected official, and my involvement in several community organizations, I have found the information on conflict resolution, team building (incorporating the principles of diversity, ethics, and budgeting and finance) and cultures of organizational behavior to be invaluable. During the process, I developed a Capstone Project designed to establish multiple professional contacts that will facilitate the development of future community projects. As such, I would highly recommend this program of study for other public officials."
Curtis Hillman, Supervisor
"I am enjoying this program. It has been both a helpful update of material that I learned in graduate school as well as a source of useful new information. My City has already benefited from some of the networking opportunities I have enjoyed as a participant in this program. I can recommend the Michigan Certified Public Manager Program at Saginaw Valley State University without hesitation."
Edward Klobucher, City Manager
“Like many part-time public servants, I find it extremely challenging to balance family life, career responsibilities and public service. Continuing education can sometimes be an overwhelming option that is commonly not chosen. The Michigan Certified Public Manager Program offered at SVSU has embraced these challenges and developed a framework of online and onsite coursework that allows for busy professionals to participate and grow. I would recommend anyone looking to expand their knowledge and experience in the public arena to look at this course seriously, I assure you that you will find it invaluable, feasible and achievable.”
Christopher Shannon, Commission President
“The Michigan Certified Public Manager Program is a prime example of community leaders learning and developing stage-gate public administration techniques to encourage leadership through vision, competence and innovation. The online delivery format is ideal for communicating ideas sharing ideas and experiences, and learning from prominent figures in the State of Michigan. There is no question that professionals that engage in this curriculum will gain up-to-date information and understanding of their roe as managers in public administration. The CPM designation is not only a necessity [but it] sets a new standard in public administration in Michigan and across the country.”
"The Michigan Certified Public Manager Program has been a great experience for me. It has provided me with insight and direction, which helps me in my current position as Assistant City Manager. I would recommend this program to anyone wishing to continue their education and enhance their professional development and knowledge. The instructors are friendly and very supportive and are always available for questions or comments."
