Q. What is Math Fit Plus?
The SVSU Math Fit Plus is a camp designed to give incoming freshmen a head start on their university education. It’s a mix of lecture, computer-based work and a healthy dose of fun! We will work on strengthening your math skills with assignments and tutoring. This gives you a chance to test into a higher math class after camp completion.
Q. Who can participate?
Incoming students must be placed in a math course other than MATH 081 and MATH 161 (Calculus). These majors require strong math skills, and participation in Math Fit Plus will give students the opportunity to test out of a lower level math course, which can save you time and money.
Q. What is the cost?
Participation is free of charge.
Q. When is MATH FIT PLUS?
Math Fit Plus runs August 1-12, 2011, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday on the campus of SVSU. Lunch will be provided each day.
Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from Math Fit Plus.
Q. What is required of students participating in MATH FIT PLUS?
Math Fit Plus students are expected to participate in 4-4 ½ hours each day of instruction and math exercises. Additionally, each day includes 1-1 ½ hours of complementary activities that range from guest speakers demonstrating “real world math” to campus field trips.
Q. Does this count as a class?
No. However, at the end of the camp, you will be given the opportunity to test into a higher math class, saving you the time and money of taking a lower level class! We’ll help improve your math skills in just two weeks!
