English Language Requirements for Admissions/Results of the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) SVSU Code is 1766

Admission to SVSU’s College of Eduation graduate program requires either a minimum TOEFL score of 525 (or 195 computer based) or successful completion of SVSU’s English Language Program (ESL). Students without a TOEFL score or with a TOEFL score below the required score of 525 may be admitted to the English language program, as well as conditionally admitted to a degree program. Upon successful completion of the ESL program, those students conditionally admitted will be re-evaluated for full admission to the master’s degree program. Students interested in conditional admission should check the box under the Study Plan on the application form that indicates the Master’s and English Language Program.

Evidence of Financial Support

It is a requirement for admission that you can demonstrate the ability to pay for your education expenses at SVSU. There are two steps to provide evidence of financial support:

  • Provide a bank statement or bank letter (explained below) specifying the amount available.
  • Complete the Statement of Financial Responsibility on the application.

You must submit with your application one of the following documents to verify that funds are available to pay for your educational expenses. This document must specify an amount available (in dollars or in another currency) and can be: 1). A bank statement; 2). A letter from a bank which includes a specific amount of funds available; or 3). A letter from an agency which is supporting your study. You must submit an original of this document with your application before you can be admitted and it must specify U.S. funds available to you. This same documentation must be presented to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate to obtain your visa.

You must not plan to finance your education in the U.S. through employment. U.S. laws do not allow the citizens of other countries to accept off-campus jobs unless they have received specific authorization from the Immigration and Naturalization Service. International students are eligible for up to 20 hours of on-campus employment during the fall and winter semesters and 40 hours of on-campus employment during the summer, and may compete with other students for those positions.

Submit a photocopy of your Passport page that shows your name.

Copy of teaching credentials (certificate, diploma’s etc.)
