The Literacy Center at Saginaw Valley State University

Parents reading with their child

About the Center

The Literacy Center at SVSU is located in Gilbertson Hall, in a state-of-the-art facility that fosters motivation for reading and utilizes the latest technology.  Students are assessed to determine their strengths and needs in reading. Our tutors then use these assessments to build individualized lesson plans that maximize student potential.  A one-hour assessment is necessary for each participant prior to the clinic. A nominal deposit is due at or before the assessment.

While the students are participating in the clinic, parents or guardians can enjoy some quiet time in the Kittur Rani Channamma Friendship Room within Gilbertson Hall or enjoy a cup of coffee at a campus dining facility.

About Our Tutors

  • Active, certified teachers;
  • Have specialized training in reading and extensive classroom experience;
  • Utilize a research-based tutoring system at every session;
  • Work collaboratively with parents;
  • Utilize data-driven instruction correlating with state standards.
