That is the agency’s purpose – their mission. “As we seek to grow, and to increase the number of people we are able to help, we will strengthen our network, allowing us to provide increased services to those who need them. At the Disability Network, we believe that it's not the disability that prevents people from participating in our communities... it's the barriers placed in front of them.”

The Literacy Council provides one-on-one tutoring to qualified individuals who are age 16 or older and are not being served by a school or training facility. All Literacy Council services are free of charge and confidential. The Adult Basic Education Program is available to those whose spoken and written English skills are below the 9th grade level. Tutoring in math is also available. The English as a Second Language Program is available to those whose English skills need to be improved to meet their personal goals. The Workforce Literacy Program operates in the Midland Michigan Works! facility. This is a skill building program for job seekers and provides instruction in reading, writing, math and other areas. The Dyslexia Program has received state recognition. This council is one of a few literacy councils in Michigan to offer services for adult learners with dyslexia. They also have launched a program for children with dyslexia at a local elementary school, which is 100 percent staffed and managed by volunteers. The Gift of Reading Program works in partnership with local agencies in an effort to put books in the hands of at-risk children who otherwise would have little or no access to reading materials.

SVRC Industries Inc. has been providing quality vocational rehabilitation services in Saginaw County and the surrounding community since 1962. By working together as a collaborating partner with the Saginaw/Shiawassee Intermediate School District, Community Mental Health, State of Michigan, and local businesses we have been able to provide quality outcomes for persons with disabilities and other barriers to employment. SVRC Industries is accredited by CARF (Commission on Accreditation for Rehabilitation Facilities) to ensure quality services to the persons served. The Industrial Operations/Contract Services are certified by NSF to the ISO/TS 16949 Quality Standards to ensure quality for industrial customers.
