Pioneer remodeling continues, new concessions facility on schedule
August 25, 2006 —
Foundations for construction on Pioneer Hall have been completed for the new building.
"It looks like we're still in line to be completed next fall," says Steve Hocquard, assistant vice president of Campus Facilities, says. "Material costs have gone up quite a bit, so we've had to make some minor modifications. The portions that have been demolished have been demolished."
The temporary Pioneer facility in A-Lot and in the old theatre is up and running for fall.
Construction is still underway on the concessions building. "It'll take a nip and tuck to be open by the Homecoming game, but it depends on the suppliers and the weather," Hocquard says.
In March, construction will begin on the baseball and softball fields. Work on the dugouts, seating, and press box are said to be completed by spring.
Landscaping projects around the north end of the football stadium and the old theatre, which is being temporarily repurposed for Pioneer construction and repurposed in the long-term for the art program, is "not even up for bids yet," says Hocquard.
In Curtiss, four breakout rooms from C101 - C104 have been morphed into two classrooms.
Locker rooms in the Ryder Center have also undergone construction.
"It used to be that teams would share rooms," Hocquard says. "Now each sport is getting its own locker room."
