Lakers crush previously undefeated Northwood
Grand Valley made a statement at home on Saturday night, showing the Timberwolves that there was a reason the Lakers had won 20 games in a row. Northwood came into the game undefeated and ranked ninth in the nation, but the Lakers caused six turnovers and turned the biggest conference game of the year into a blowout, winning 45-7.
NU came into the game with just three turnovers all season, but they eclipsed that mark midway through the second quarter on a fumble by senior quarterback Kyle Kolbe. Northwood fumbled five times in all, and Kolbe threw an interception in the first quarter.
The Lakers held Northwood to 130 yards on the ground, 81 of which was on the initial scoring drive. The Timberwolves came into the game averaging 272 rushing yards per game.
Ferris keeps playoff hopes alive at Ashland
The Bulldogs held the Eagles under 100 yards of offense until midway through the fourth quarter and got three long touchdown passes from senior quarterback Ryan Kaul for a 38-7 win. Ferris, ranked tenth in the regional rankings, must win at home against Grand Valley next week to even consider the playoffs a possibility.
Ferris played like it needed to win, going up 21-0 in the second quarter and not looking back. Kaul connected on two 60-yard scores in the first half and a 42-yard one on the Bulldogs' first possession of the second half to put the game out of reach.
Following the contest against the rival Lakers, Ferris travels to Northwood and ends the season with a home matchup against Wayne State, which could also be fighting for a playoff possibility that day.
