The program is presented in partnership with the American Society of Health Informatics Managers, Inc.  They are the leading association for technical professionals who specialize in Health IT (HIT). ASHIM® is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that acts in public interest by fostering professional standards in Health IT Professionals.

Through its setting and enforcement of the education, examination, experience, ethics and other requirements for CHISP® certification, ASHIM awards individuals who successfully complete initial and ongoing certification requirements the right to use the CHISP® certification mark. To prepare members for certification and the Health IT profession, SVSU & ASHIM provides online training programs to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to become competent health IT professionals. The training includes instruction in computer science, the US healthcare system, medical information systems and practical lab simulations.

(Registration and testing is facilitated through ASHIM not SVSU)

Fees Schedule:

  • First Attempt CHISP Exam: $175 (Includes Annual Membership to ASHIM)
  • Subsequent Attempt/s – CHISP exam: $49.95 (secured test proctor processing fee)

To renew the credential, the test taker must maintain annual ASHIM membership, which includes demonstrating a continued current knowledge in the healthcare industry through Continued Education Units. ASHIM provides CEU opportunities at no additional charge.

Checklist Testing Times, Locations and Other Requirements

CHISP is a high-stakes proctored exam delivered online between 12 Noon to 12 Midnight EST M-F, and from 6 p.m. to 11 EST p.m. on weekends.  It is fully secured using today’s technologies, including biometric keystroke analytics and does not require test takers to go to a testing facility. Instead, the exam may be taken from any computer with a standalone web cam and high-speed internet access.  It must be scheduled, rescheduled, or canceled 48 hours in advance.  Scheduling options are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. All test takers are required to complete a biometric enrollment process that includes capturing their photo and keystroke analytics. These are used to authenticate the test taker and are later displayed as part of all credential verification requests.  Real Time Human Proctoring and Security Shield: The CHISP exam requires a stand-alone web cam.  If you are unsure of your qualifications contact us 877-263-1261 or by email at ashim_member_services@ashim.org.
