Porcupine Mountains Backpacking - Ontonagon, MI

Come experience the backwoods of Northern Michigan with a 4 day and 3 night backpacking trek in the Porcupine Mountains. This trek will include a visit to Mirror Lake and the awe inspiring Lake of Clouds. Sign up today to join in this journey!

Instructions
If you are driving, please park in R lot, we have overnight parking passes for that lot if needed. Just let us know when you get here and we will provide you a pass. (See campus map in link #2 for directions). Once you are in R lot, make your way to the Campus Recreation Center entrance and bring all of your gear in at this time.

Itinerary
August 31
Depart campus from the Campus Recreation Center and travel to Munising for lunch
Continue on to the Porcupine Mountains!
Hike 2.0 mi to our first campsite
Set up camp for the night
September 1
Hike 6.4 mi to Mirror Lake
Explore the area
Set up camp for the night
September 2
Hike 3.8 mi to Lake of Clouds
Explore the area
Set up camp for the night
September 3
Hike 4.0 mi back to where we started
Drive back to campus

Please bring a refillable water bottle to use total minimum 2 L.  Feel free to bring any snacks or other items you wish. Backpacking is a strenuous activity. You will be burning many calories that will need to be replenished! If you have any dietary restrictions or preferences, please let us know at registration in order to make accommodations.

Clothes

1 full change of clothes to keep in the car for post hiking!
1-2 pair athletic pants/synthetic hiking pants
1 pair of shorts
2-3 synthetic/athletic shirts (cotton is not good!)
1 long sleeve for at night
1 long/warm pair of sleep pants
3-4 pairs of thick socks
4-5 pair of underwear
2-3 pairs of sports bras (if worn)
1 pair durable hiking boots (no fashion boots will be allowed)
Gear
Backpack (at least 35L)
Sleeping bag

Helpful Hints!
You must attend the pre-trip meeting Sunday, August 26 @ 6:00PM. If you are unable to make the pre-trip meeting, you must email Joe (jfjaczko@svsu.edu) to set up a time to meet about your adventure.

Keep in mind that what you bring on the trip will need to fit in 35-65 L backpack. You are responsible for carrying your belongings. Ounces add up to pounds!
