SVSU Wins Second Straight

GRENELEFE, FL -- Saginaw Valley State University won its third straight women's tennis match in Florida Saturday, easily disposing of the University of Findlay by an 8-1 score.
     The Lady Cardinals won all six singles flights and dropped only three sets all day.
     Junior Dawn Thomas (Port Huron/Northern) won at No. 1 singles over Laura Pritts, 6-1, 6-3. Sophomore Jennifer Spence (Saginaw/Heritage) beat Kendra Niswander at No. 2 by a 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 score. Sophomore Meghan LaForrest (Bay City/Central) took out Summer Denlinger at No. 3, 6-0, 6-2. Freshman Samantha Dodson (Frankenmuth) beat Lacy Rader at No. 4, 6-3, 6-3. Senior Heidi Yeagley (Flushing) won at No. 5 over Allison Welly, 7-5, 6-1. And Allison Lamanna (Sterling Heights/Henry Ford II) took the No. 6 match over Mika Noda, 6-0, 6-2.
     Doubles winners for SVSU were Thomas & Spence at No. 1 over Pritts & Denlinger, 8-6, and LaForrest & Lamanna over Welly & Noda, 8-1.
     SVSU improved to 3-1 in Florida and is 7-9 overall. The Cardinals wrap up their spring schedule with a home match against Alma College on Friday, March 9 at Four Flags Raquet Club in Saginaw.
