SVSU Closes GLIAC Campaign with Win

UNIVERSITY CENTER, MI - In the final GLIAC match of the season the Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team was able to beat the University of Findlay for the first time ever by the score of 1-0.
Freshman goalkeeper Linde McCubbin (Saginaw/Heritage) had five saves for her school-record fifth shutout of the season.
Freshman Krista St. Aubin (Utica) scored the game's only goal and her school record tenth goal of the season at the 50:47 mark in the second half, with an assist from sophomore Lisa Mahoney (Frankenmuth).
"This was a different kind of match then we usually have against Findlay," said head coach Jim Conner. "Usually it's a higher scoring contest. I believe that Carrie Loveland (Grand Blanc) put up her best effort of the season.
I am very pleased with their play out there today. We started the season as a team and we are finishing the year as a team. That is how we are able to be at the place we are now."
The Lady Cardinals had 11 shots, including four on goal, while the Oilers had 14 shots and five on goal.
SVSU improved to 6-6-2 overall, 4-4-1 in the GLIAC. The Cards get 12 days off before hosting Schoolcraft College in an exhibition match, marking the final home appearance of the season at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27.
