Lady Cardinal Soccer
1999 Season Outlook
As the last season in the century, 1999 could prove to be the most challenging. With six nationally ranked teams on the schedule the Lady Cardinals will find the competition to be at the highest levels each time they step on the field.
After finishing with a 7-11 record in 1998, the Cardinals will be looking to improve on that mark and to move up in the standings of the GLIAC.
"We are still a young team and will probably be younger this fall as compared to last year", said third year head coach Jim Conner. "Our recruiting class has been excellent and we expect to have a number of freshman and sophomores in the starting line up".
Conner signed four all-conference and all-state players to national letters of intent for 1999.
"The one thing that happens at SVSU is that freshman get to play and contribute," said Conner. "This year will be no different. However, we do have some upper class leadership which has been lacking in the past."
Courtney Nash, Summer Dykhuizen, Carrie Loveland, Audra Forsberg, Katie Foster, and Michelle Hus are expected to provide the maturity which is needed to move the program to the next level.
"We also have some transfers from Michigan community colleges who have excellent credentials and they can only add to the depth being created by the quality we already have."
"We will have to work hard if we are going to be competitive, I feel we have the talent, so success will depend on how dedicated to excellence we are as a team."
