KILLMER NAMED NEW HEAD
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL COACH
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Saginaw Valley
State University has announced today that Yvonne Killmer will
become the eighth head women’s basketball coach in school
history effective immediately. “We are excited to have the
caliber of an individual that we have in Yvonne,” said Athletic
Director Joe Vogl. “She has some great recruiting contacts
locally and across the state and also has a very disciplined approach
to her players and the game.”
Killmer joins the Cardinals after serving
as Girls Basketball Coach at Saginaw Arthur Hill High School since
1993. In addition, Killmer has served as Athletic Director at
Arthur Hill since 2000.
“I am very excited to be at Saginaw
Valley State University and be able to get started with a solid
group of athletes,” said Killmer.
Killmer has also served as a teacher in
the Saginaw Public School system having taught from 1996-2000.
She also has been familiar with SVSU serving as an assistant coach
during the 1991-92 season under head coach Claudette Charney.
Her duties included developing and implementing offensive strategies
and recruitment of potential scholarship athletes. Killmer is
involved with several professional organizations including Basketball
Coaches Association of Michigan, Michigan High School Coaches
Association, National High School Coaches Association and Women’s
Basketball Coaches Association.
She excelled on the hardwood at the University
of Michigan where she played from 1985-88. She set the single-season
assist records in 1987 and 1988 and was elected captain and most
valuable player for the Wolverines as a junior and senior. Killmer
has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan
in Sports Management and Communications received in 1988. Killmer
also was a part of three state championships as a prep at Carrollton
High School.
