Lady Cardinals Foil Golden
Knights, 77-70
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University
women’s basketball team earned a hard-fought 77-70 victory
over the visiting Gannon Golden Knights on Saturday (January 10).
The win moves the Cardinals’ winning streak to four games.
The Cardinals got career-high scoring
outputs from freshmen guards Kamaria Douglas
(Lansing, Mich./Everett) and Lisa Collison
(Saginaw, Mich./Heritage), with 14 points and 16 points,
respectively. Sophomore Valerie Smith (Owosso,
Mich.) posted a double-double with 16 points and a game-high
ten rebounds, while senior Jennifer Brogger (Harbor
Springs, Mich.) added eleven points and junior Jennifer
Hagstrom (Cadillac, Mich.) added ten points
and five rebounds. Douglas dished out a game-high six assists
and recorded a game-high three steals. Hagstrom added a game-high
two blocks to aid in the victory.
The Golden Knights got double-figure
scoring outputs from two players, with Sarah Pavelecky posting
team highs of 19 points and nine rebounds. Jen Gwin followed up
that performance with 18 points, six assists and six rebounds.
The win raises the Cardinals’
record to 11-3 (3-2 GLIAC) on the season, while Gannon falls to
10-5 (3-2 GLIAC). SVSU returns to the court on Monday (January
12) when they host Northwood for a 5:30p.m. contest.
