Miller
Joins SVSU Coaching Staff
UNIVERSITY CENTER,
Mich. - Saginaw Valley State track and field head coach Jim Nesbitt
has announced the hiring of assistant coach Melissa Miller for the
2005-06 school year effective immediately.
"Melissa will be a welcome addition
to the program," said Nesbitt. "She is a hard worker and
brings experience being a student-athlete at Central Michigan."

GALLIER
EARNS ALL-AMERICAN STATUS IN 400 HURDLES
ABILENE, Tex. -
The Saginaw Valley State track and field squads were well represented
with six student-athletes competing at the 2005 NCAA II Outdoor
Nationals this weekend and the top performance of the nationals
for SVSU went to Mandie Gallier (Medford, N.J./Shawnee)
who for the second straight outdoor season was an All-American in
the 400 meter hurdles. Gallier finished third in the event on Saturday
from Elmer Gray Stadium in Abilene, Texas on the campus of Abilene
Christian University. She ran the hurdles in a time of 59.73 in
the finals and earned six team points for the Cardinals. Gallier
qualified sixth on Thursday for the finals with a time of 1:00.54.

PREPARE FOR NATIONALS
UNIVERSITY CENTER,
Mich. -The Saginaw Valley State University track & field program
is proud to have six of their athletes make qualifing marks to participate
in the Outdoor National Championships which will take place from
May 26 to May 28. On the women's side, senior Mandie Gallier
(Medford, N.J.) qualified in the 400 meter hurdles
with a time of 1:00.11, giving her the fifth overall seed in that
event. Joining her from the women's team will be freshman Becca
Rudey (Wixom, Mich./Walled Lake Western HS) who
will compete in the 5000 meter run, qualifying with a time of 17:32.14.

FINISH FIFTH AT GLIAC CHAMPIONSHIP
ALLENDALE, Mich.
- The SVSU Cardinals finished fifth in the 2005 GLIAC Outdoor Championships
with a team total of 65 points. The women had two second-place finishes
on the track as senior Diane Johnston (Grand
Blanc, Mich.) ran a time of 38:29.04 in the 10,000 meters and
senior Mandie Gallier (Medford, N.J./Shawnee)
ran a time of 1:00.44 in the 400 hurdles. Junior Lisa Fair
(Troy, Mich./Athens) also had a strong showing in the 400
hurdles with a time of 1:02.65 which was good for third place. (More) |

GUERRERO
AND GALLIER SHINE AT "GINA" RELAYS
HILLSDALE, Mich.
- Senior Mario Guerrero (Saginaw, Mich./Swan Valley)
and senior Mandie Gallier (Medford, N.J./Shawnee)
each had big meets at the "Gina" Relays on Friday and
Saturday. Guerrero participated in the decathlon for the first time
and managed to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships with 6,561
points. He has the 11th-best point total among Division II athletes
and won the event by more than four hundred points. Gallier finished
in the top 10 in three events including a first place finish in
the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:00.11. In addition, she was sixth
in the 400 dash (57.82) and ninth in the 100 hurdles (14.87). (More) |

Ladies
Have Strong Showing at Ferris State Invite
BIG RAPIDS, Mich.
- The Saginaw Valley State Cardinals competed at the Ferris State
Invite on Saturday in Big Rapids. Junior Ashley Bishop
(Pickford, Mich.) placed in the top six in three throwing
events, including a second place in the hammer throw (156-3), third
place in the discus (132-10) and sixth in the shot put (42-0.5).
Senior Mandie Gallier (Medford, N.J.)
had a good day in the hurdles placing first in the 400 hurdles (1:01.63)
and second in the 100 hurdles (14.97). (More) |

Wins Two Events at Edmonds Invitational
RENSSELAER, Ind..
- SVSU began the outdoor track season at the Gene and Rose Edmonds
Invitational on Saturday hosted by St. Joseph's College. The Cardinal
men won the invitational with 200 team points, better than 31.50
team points by the second place Pumas of St. Joseph's. The women's
team placed fourth out of five teams and scored 119 team points.
Freshman Kali Briggs (Jackson, Mich./Vandercook
Lake) won two events including the high jump (5' 0") and the
javelin throw (118' 2") for the ladies. (More) |

Pouillon
Earns All-American Honors
BOSTON, Mass. - Senior Mary
Jo Pouillon (Owosso, Mich.) and freshman Eltaro
Hooper (Ypsilanti, Mich./Lincoln) both earned
All-American honors based on their performances at the 2005 NCAA
Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships. On Friday, Hooper
placed seventh in the high jump (6' 9.5") and earned 1.5 team
points for the Cards. On Saturday, Pouillon also placed seventh
in the shot put (45' 6.5") earning two team points. (More) |
