Cards Finish Second at Michigan Intercollegiate

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State men's cross country squad finished second out of 13 schools in the Michigan Intercollegiate at Rochester, Michigan hosted by Oakland University on Friday. SVSU fell short of first Place by 14 points to Grand Valley State University with a total score of 54. Senior Adam Roach (Port Huron, Mich.) placed 1st out of 105 runners with a time of 25:14. Senior Brandon Johnson (Owosso, Mich.) crossed the line in 7th at 25:49. Sophmore Steve Czymbor (Henlock, Mich.) was 8th with a time of 25:52. (Results)

Cards Finish Sixth out of 28 Schools at Loyola

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Saginaw Valley State men's cross country squad finished sixth out of 28 schools in the Gold Division at the Loyola Lakefront on Saturday. SVSU defeated several Division I schools including Indiana with a team score of 188. Senior Adam Roach (Port Huron, Mich.) placed 24th out of 270 runners with a time of 25:17. Senior Jerome Recker (Kimball, Mich./Port Huron) crossed the line in 27th at 25:23 for his best finish of the fall. Junior Paul Jozwiak (Berkley, Mich.) was 39th in a time of 25:34. Roach Named GLIAC Runner of the Week

BAY CITY, Mich. – Saginaw Valley State senior Adam Roach finished first out of 115 runners at the Bulldog Invitational hosted by
Ferris State University at the Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich. Roach finished the 8,000 meter course in a time of 24:50, narrowly edging out teammate Brandon Johnson, who finished second with a time of 24:51.

Cards Win Ferris State Bulldog Invite with 30 points

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Senior Adam Roach (Port Huron, Mich.) and senior Brandon Johnson (Owosso, Mich.) would certainly like to repeat Friday's performances the next time they visit Big Rapids for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Nov. 5 as they finished first and second respectively at the Bulldog Invite. Roach ran the 8K in 24:50, while Johnson was one tick behind at 24:51. Fellow teammates sophomore Steve Czymbor (Hemlock, Mich.) and junior Paul Jozwiak (Berkley, Mich.) were right behind in sixth and seventh places respectively with times of 25:07 and 25:12. (Results)

Cards Post Solid Times at Michigan State


EAST LANSING, Mich. – Saginaw Valley State competed at Michigan State on Friday afternoon and placed five runners in the top 41 including a 22nd finish by Adam Roach (Port Huron, Mich.) who crossed the line at 25:42. Ten spots behind Roach was sophomore Steve Cyzmbor (Hemlock, Mich.) who ran a time of 25:53. Senior Jerome Recker (Kimball, Mich./Port Huron) finished 35th at 26:02. Paul Jozwiak (Berkley, Mich.) was running in the same pack and finished 37th at 26:06. Brandon Johnson (Owosso, Mich.) finished 41st at 26:13. (Results)

Roach Crosses Line First at Northwood Open


MIDLAND, Mich. – Senior Adam Roach (Port Huron, Mich.) under beautiful skies held off Northwood's Jon Hodge and in the end finished first with a time of 25:43 in the 8K Northwood Open. Hodge finished six seconds behind Roach. Sophomore Steve Czymbor (Hemlock, Mich.) was a close third at 25:50 finishing less than a second behind Hodge. The Cardinals took spots fourth through sixth as Paul Jozwiak (Berkley, Mich.) crossed at 25:53, Brandon Johnson (Owosso, Mich.) at 26:12 and Jerome Recker (Kimball, Mich./Port Huron) at 26:13. Czymbor Leads Cardinals at SVSU Invitational


UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The SVSU men's cross country squad defeated Wayne Community College in a dual meet on Friday scoring 15 team points compared to 50 for WCC. Sophomore Steve Czymbor (Hemlock, Mich.) crossed the finish line first in a time of 26:28 in the 8K race. Senior Brandon Johnson (Owosso, Mich.) placed second with a time of 26:52. Junior Greg Schmit (Leslie, Mich.) came in third with a time of 27:05. Junior Nick Krus (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview) placed fourth with a time of 27:26. Cross Country Squad Recognized for Academics


UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's cross country team has been named to the NCAA Division II Cross Country Coaches Association 2004 All-Academic Team. In order to achieve this honor, the cumulative grade point average of the team must be 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. The Cardinal harriers accumulated a team GPA of 3.232. In addition, Adam Roach, Steve Czymbor and Pedro Ortega each earned individual All-Academic honors. (Release)

Cardinals Conclude Season with Awards Banquet


UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University cross country teams held their annual season ending banquet on Monday (November 8). Head coach Jim Nesbitt was pleased to announce award winners for both the men's and women's teams. Junior Adam Roach (Port Huron, Mich.) earned Team MVP for the men's squad. (MORE)

Cardinals Take Fourth at GLIAC Championships


ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men’s and women’s cross country squads competed at the GLIAC Championships on Saturday (October 23), with the men finishing in fourth place and the women coming home with an eleventh-place showing.  Junior Adam Roach (Port Huron, Mich.) led the Cardinals with a fifth-place finish (25:44.9).
