1999 Cardinal Soccer Season Outlook

The 1999 Cardinal season looks to be an improvement from last year. During the past two seasons the Cardinal soccer program has made great strides.

Third year head coach Reza Saffarian has a main goal to win 75 percent of the 1999 games. With nationally-ranked oppoents in the tough GLIAC, that feat would be a significant achievement.

“I would eventually like to see us as one of the top three teams in the GLIAC. We have quality players to achieve this goal during next season”, commented Saffarian.

The 1998 Cardinal soccer team surprised a few very good teams last year with their talent. Coach Saffarian has high expectations for the upcoming season, as well as the rest of the team.

The offensive line will be led by Jose Guzman, who scored 11 goals in 1998. “He had a great season last year and we are looking forward to a high scoring season from him again”, commented Saffarian.

With the loss of Senior captain Andy Rishmawi, co-captains Cody Loose and Neil Sauer will have to step up and bring some leadership to the team. With a strong freshman crop being added to the team and the return of some key players this should be a promising season.
