Cardinals Fall to Panthers 106-92
OWENSBORO, Ky. - The Saginaw Valley State
University men's basketball team saw its four-game winning streak
snapped by Kentucky Wesleyan College on Monday (December 30) as
the Panthers posted a 106-92 victory.
KWC, ranked second in the nation, held a 65-44
advantage with 16:12 to play in the second half. SVSU then used
a 20-6 run to pull within seven points, 71-64, with 10:19 left in
the contest, but the Cardinals were unable to draw any closer, and
ultimately fell by fourteen points.
Senior Terrence Wright (Saginaw, Mich./Buena
Vista HS) led all scorers with a career-high 36 points in the
loss. Wright was 13-24 from the floor, including 4-10 from three-point
range. He connected on 6-6 free throw attempts. David Williams
(Laingsburg, Mich.) added 12 points while Anthony
Parker (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores HS) tallied 11 points
and six boards for SVSU. Maurice Brown (Detroit, Mich./Cody
HS) finished with ten points and eight rebounds.
Thad Key led the Panthers with 22 points and ten
rebounds, while Damon Garris finished with 21 points and eleven
rebounds. KWC carried a 53-41 rebounding edge. The Panthers also
enjoyed an advantage at the free throw line, connecting on 32 of
42 attempts. The Cardinals went 8-16 from the charity stripe.
The loss drops the Cardinals to 8-4 (2-1 GLIAC)
on the season while the Panthers move to 8-1 (2-1 GLVC). SVSU returns
to action on Saturday (January 4) when the Cardinals host the University
of Findlay at 3:00p.m.
