Gannon Offense Too Much for SVSU

ERIE, Pa. – The Saginaw Valley State University men’s basketball team fell to Gannon University by a score of 108-87 on Thursday (January 9). The Knights jumped out to an early eleven point lead, 13-2, three minutes into the game, only to see the Cardinals close to 49-43 at halftime. The Knights controlled much of the second half, sending the Cardinals to their third straight loss.
     Sophomores David Williams (Laingsburg, Mich.) and Anthony Parker (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores HS) led the offensive attack for the Cardinals, with 20 and 19 points, respectively. Senior Terrence Wright (Saginaw, Mich./Buena Vista HS) tacked on 18 points, including 11-11 shooting from the free-throw line, while junior Tim Fralick (Troy, Mich.) pitched in with 13. Parker and Wright each added a team-high eight rebounds to the Cardinal cause, while Fralick dished out a team-high five assists.
     Sophomore Geoff Husted torched SVSU for a career-high and game-high 31 points to go along with a game-high 13 rebounds for the Knights. Husted managed his point total on 14-18 shooting from the floor and 3-3 shooting from the free-throw line. Junior Brandon Andrews chipped in with 22 points, while senior Josh Morgan added a season-high 21. Senior Camara Mintz also had a strong game, recording nine points and a game-high nine assists.
     The Cardinals shot an exceptional 85.2% (23-27) from the free-throw line but struggled from the floor (39.7%). The Knights held advantages in field goal percentage (58.3% to 39.7%) and three-point field goal percentage (54.5% to 24.0%), as they shot 42-72 from the field and 12-22 from beyond the arc. Gannon also had 30 assists, compared to just 14 for SVSU.
     SVSU falls to 8-6 (2-3 GLIAC), while Gannon ups its record to 12-4 (4-2 GLIAC). The Cardinals remain in Erie for a 3:00p.m. contest against Mercyhurst College on Saturday (January 11).
