HERREMANS SIGNS FOUR-YEAR
CONTRACT WITH EAGLES
The Eagles have what they think is a terrific prospect under contract.
Fourth-round draft pick Todd Herremans has signed a four-year contract,
becoming the second draft pick to ink a deal.
Herremans was the 126th overall selection in April's draft, and
the Eagles had to trade three draft picks to get the pick from Green
Bay. Herremans, from little Saginaw Valley State, moved up quickly
on teams' draft boards once they saw him in post-season workouts.
The rookie worked at both tackle positions in the post-draft camps
for the Eagles and has a chance to become a starting tackle in the
near future.
He's got excellent size at 6 feet 6, 321 pounds and once his frame
fills out, Herremans will be a very imposing specimen. For now,
though, he is in the learning mode.
"That's what you have to do, every day," he said during
the June passing camp. "There is so much to learn. It's a different
world as far as technique that I'm trying to take it all in and
learn step by step."
Herremans will be part of the early sessions at training camp at
Lehigh University. He'll be among a group of players working for
three days from July 30 through Aug. 1. The entire team will practice
on Aug. 2 through the remainder of training camp.
Herremans earned Division II All-America honors in his senior season,
as he started every game at left tackle and allowed just 2 sacks.
The 22-year-old lineman also received the Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference offensive lineman of the year award in 2004,
as he helped the offense rank first in the conference in passing
(264.1 yards per game), third in scoring (35.4 points per game)
and third in total offense (418.7 yards per game).
