FOUR CARDS
HONORED AS ALL-REGION SELECTIONS
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Four Cardinals
have earned Daktronics, Inc. Division II All-Northwest Region honors
for the 2004 season. Senior quarterback Mark Radlinski
(Grand Rapids, Mich./Catholic Central) and senior offensive
tackle Todd Herremans (Ravenna, Mich.)
were selected First Team All-Northwest Region at their respective
positions.
Radlinski rewrote the record books
at SVSU during his career. He posted a 19-4 record as a starter
and led the Cardinals to a 7-3 record in 2004. Radlinski threw for
7,075 yards and 71 touchdowns in his career and also ranked eighth
all-time in NCAA Division II history in pass efficiency (158.1).
Herremans had a remarkable four years
at SVSU having started in 40 games. He is a two-time First Team
All-GLIAC selection and was named the 2004 GLIAC Co-Offensive Lineman
of the Year. Herremans has also been selected to compete in two
all-star games (Cactus Bowl and the Las Vegas All-American Classic).
Senior defensive lineman Neil
Baumgartner (Iron River, Mich./West Iron County)
and junior linebacker John DiGiorgio (Shelby
Twp., Mich./Eisenhower) were named Second Team All-Northwest
Region.
Baumgartner finished his career with
21 sacks which ranks second all-time at SVSU and since 2000 ranks
sixth in NCAA Division II. Baumgartner also had 40.5 tackles for
loss which ranks eighth in NCAA Division II since 2000. Baumgartner
has also received numerous academic awards including 2003-04 GLIAC
Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year and he is a two-time CoSIDA Academic
First Team All-American in the College Division.
DiGiorgio is rapidly moving up the
career charts in total tackles and currently ranks sixth all-time
with 320 tackles. He recorded 110 tackles this season and posted
double-digit tackles in eight games. DiGiorgio was a First Team
All-GLIAC selection and was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the
Week on Oct. 18.
The Daktronics, Inc. All-Region and
All-American Teams are selected by the sports information directors
at NCAA Division II membership schools.
