Cardinals Drop Game to Lakers

ASHLAND, OH. – Saginaw Valley State University didn't come out like they wanted to at the GLIAC Baseball Tournament on Thursday (May 6), as they dropped their opening round game against Grand Valley State University 11-7. The Cards trailed 7-0 going after the sixth inning, before scoring two runs in the seventh and five in the eighth to close the gap to 8-7. Trailing by only a run going into the bottom of eight, SVSU allowed the Lakers to score three runs, giving them an 11-7 adavantage that the Cards couldn't cut into in the final inning.
Steve Liebrecht (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage HS) gave up four runs in 3.1 innings of work, taking the loss on the mound for SVSU. The Cards only managed seven hits, but one of them was a three run home run off the bat of Chris Norton (Grand Rapids, Mich./Catholic Central HS).
Saginaw Valley returns to action on Friday, (May 7) as they play at 1:00 pm. The Cardinals will face the loser of the first round matchup between Ashland and Wayne State.
