SVSU GETS 20th WIN IN
A 12-7 TRIUMPH OVER CALVIN
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Cardinals broke
open a close game with six runs in the fifth inning and four runs
in the sixth inning to claim a 12-7 nine-inning win over Calvin
College at Calvin Field on Thursday. Starting pitcher Kori
Garman (Goodrich, Mich.) pitched 4.2 innings and allowed
six hits and six earned runs in picking up his first win of the
season. The relief pitching of Cory McDonald
(Hillman, Mich.) helped SVSU keep a lead over the final 4.1 innings.
McDonald allowed just one earned run on one hit with three strikeouts.
The offense was powered by junior Jon
Straus (Beal City, Mich.) who belted a three-run homer in the
sixth inning, which was his team-leading fifth homer of the year.
Straus also scored two runs. Chris Hanna (Caledonia, Mich.) totaled
five bases with a double and triple in five at-bats with a run
scored. Ryo Tahara (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview) went 3-for-5
in the leadoff spot with two doubles and two runs. Senior Mike
Crawford (Lake Orion, Mich.) went 2-for-5 with two runs and two
doubles with an RBI.
The Cards are now 20-17 overall and get
back to GLIAC play with a doubleheader at the University of Findlay
on Saturday, April 17 at 1:00 pm.
