CARDS DROP A 5-0 DECISION TO AQUINAS IN NINE INNINGS

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Senior Dan Boglitsch baffled the SVSU hitters on Tuesday afternoon allowing just four hits in a complete-game, nine-inning shutout for his first win of the season. The Saints improved to 5-11 with the 5-0 win and the Cardinals fall to 11-12 overall. Junior shortstop Chris Norton (Grand Rapids, Mich./Catholic Central) went 2-for-4 at the plate with an infield single in the first inning and a single to left field in the eighth inning. Senior Adam Piggott (Sarnia, Ont.) and sophomore Jason Burghardt (Temperance, Mich./Bedford) also collected a single each as the Cardinals left eight runners on base. Freshman Kori Garman (Goodrich, Mich.) started on the mound for SVSU and threw seven innings in picking up the loss (0-2). Garman threw 131 pitches and allowed three earned runs while striking out six. Sophomore Jim Kelly (Lake Orion, Mich.) threw two innings in relief and allowed one hit while striking out two. The Saints scored twice in the second, two more times in the fourth and one run in the seventh. Jason Klein and Travis VanHaitsma each drove in two runs, as VanHaitsma went 3-for-4 at the plate for Aquinas. The Cardinals are back in action Wednesday as they travel to Madonna (Mich.) for a single nine-inning game at 2:00 pm.
