FIVE
CARDS HONORED BY GLIAC
BAY CITY, Mich. – The Great
Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced the All-Conference
Teams for the 2004 season and five Cardinals have received honors
for their play on the diamond.
The Cardinals garnered three players
on the Second Team All-GLIAC list including junior infielder Ryo
Tahara (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview), sophomore
outfielder Jason Burghardt (Temperance, Mich./Bedford)
and sophomore pitcher Steve Liebrecht (Saginaw,
Mich./Heritage). Tahara led the team in hitting with a .354
batting average and he also started in 37 games. Tahara also ranked
third on the team in runs scored (31) and led the squad with 31
walks. Tahara also led the squad with a .526 on-base percentage.
Burghardt ranked second on the team with
a .340 batting average. He ranked second on the team with 50 hits
and also collected nine doubles and 26 RBI's. Burghardt also sported
a 1.000 fielding percentage. Liebrecht turned in a solid year
tying for the team-lead with five victories and finishing with
a 5-3 record. Liebrecht started in 10 games and posted a 3.40
ERA which was tops among starters.
Senior outfielder
Mike Crawford (Lake Orion, Mich.) and
junior third baseman Justin Hanning (Lake
Orion, Mich.) also were named Honorable Mention All-GLIAC.
Crawford also was named to the GLIAC All-Tournament Team and led
the squad with nine home runs. He also batted .280 and drove in
29 runs. Crawford also led the team with 11 steals in 12 attempts.
Hanning had a solid second-half of the season and finished the
year with a .300 batting average. He also collected five doubles
and drove in 20 runs. Hanning also had 74 infield assists.
