Cardinals Lose Heartbreaker
BRADENTON, Fla. – The
Saginaw Valley State University baseball team suffered a tough
loss to Slippery Rock 3-2 as they closed out their annual spring
trip to Florida today (Mar. 9). It is only the second loss for
the Cards this season as they head back to University Center with
a 9-2 record. Over the past four seasons SVSU has compiled a 41-18
record in the annual trips to Florida.
Senior Eric Caldwell (Cary
Grove, Ill.) pitched strong for the Cardinals, only giving
up three runs in seven innings. Caldwell fanned three and issued
no walks. Slippery Rock scored two runs in the first and their
final run in the fourth.
The Cards’ only offense came
off the bat of freshman Jason Burghardt (Temperance,
Mich./Bedford HS) who belted out two hits in the loss.
The loss drops the Cardinals’
record to 9-2 on the year. SVSU returns back to action on March
14, when the Cardinals travel to Indiana to battle with Tri State
University at 1:00p.m.
