Eric Caldwell (Cary Grove, Ill.) started and took the loss for the Cardinals, throwing six innings. The Oilers (11-29, 7-15 GLIAC) pushed two runs across in the first and third innings and three more in the seventh on the way to the 7-1 victory.
In game two, the Cardinals again failed to move a runner across the plate until the bottom of the seventh inning when Kevin Hubbs (Mt. Morris, Mich.) scored from third on a wild pitch and Chris Norton (Grand Rapids, Mich./Catholic Central HS) advanced to third, eventually scoring on an error. Mark Debo (Bay City, Mich./John Glenn HS) took the loss, being chased after allowing six runs in one third of an inning.
The Cardinals and Oilers will conclude their weekend series with a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader, Sunday (Apr. 27) at the SVSU Baseball Field.
