Four Cardinals Named To GLIAC First Team

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Eight Saginaw Valley State University baseball players were honored with All-GLIAC selections on Wednesday (May 15). Sophomore Adam Piggot (Sarnia, Ontario, CA/Sarnia Collegiate), senior Jay Scott (Berlington, Ontario, CA/Aldershot), sophomore Heath Craven (Hartland), and senior Adam Ruffner (Gibraltor/Carlson HS) were First Team All-GLIAC selections.
   Piggott led the Cardinals in offense, batting .389, while belting nine round-trippers. He was named GLIAC Freshman of the Year in 2001. Scott finished the year with a .338 batting average and led the Cardinals in stolen bases (21). Craven was a force on the mound this season, posting an 8-0 record with a 3.67 ERA. Ruffner finished the regular season with a 5-1 record, and three saves as a relief pitcher. He finished with a 1.19 ERA.
   Mike Condon (Utica) and Sean Odamura (Mississauga, Ontario, CA/Lorne Park) were All-GLIAC Second Team members. Condon was second on the team in hitting with .365 average while recording 10 doubles on the year. Odamura is batting .346 this season, and has appeared in all 45 games.
   Justin Garcia (Bay City/Western HS) and T.J. Lehnertz (Grand Rapids/Catholic Central HS) were both honorable mention All-GLIAC picks. Garcia batted .330 on the year and recorded a .500 slugging percentage. Lehnertz batted .304 on the year while appearing in all 45 games.
   The Cardinals finished the season with a mark of 35-10 and finished second in the conference with a mark of 20-7. SVSU will face Northern Kentucky in the first round of the North Central Regional Playoffs in Ashland, Ohio, on Thursday (May 16) at noon. Grand Valley State University and Ashland University will play at 3:00 p.m. in the other contest.
