Baseball Falls Twice at Grand Valley
ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State
University baseball team lost twice on Saturday (April 6)
to GLIAC rival Grand Valley State University. The Lakers won
the first game 2-1, and claimed the second contest by a 4-1
count.
Junior Scott Corby (London, Ontario,
CA/AB Lucas) pitched six and one-third innings for the
Cardinals, and allowed just to hits one earned run. Offensively,
Jay Scott (Berlington, Ontario, CA/Aldershot) and
Sean Odamura (Mississauga, Ontario, CA/Lorne Park)
each went 1-for-3 at the plate for the Cardinals.
In the second game, GVSU took a 1-0 lead
in the second inning, and pushed their advantage to 4-0 in
the fifth frame. The Cardinals scored once in the seventh
to round out the scoring. Junior Eric Caldwell (Cary
Grove, Ill.) went 1-for-3 at the plate and scored SVSU's
lone run. Senior Toby Larkin (Bridgeport) suffered
the loss.
SVSU falls to 12-5 (4-3 GLIAC) on the year, while
GVSU improves to 14-4 (6-0 GLIAC). The Cardinals and Lakers
face off in a doubleheader on Sunday (April 7) at Noon.
