Head
Announces Awards For 2002
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State University head
baseball coach Walt Head announced the award-winners from this
past season's team today (June 13). The Cardinals concluded the
season with a 36-12 record, the third straight season of over
35 wins.
Sophomore Adam Piggott (Sarnia, Ontario/Sarnia
Collegiate) was named the team's MVP. Piggot finished with
a .379 batting average, and 10 home runs on the season. On the
defensive side, Heath Craven (Hartland, Mich.) received
the Top Pitcher Award with a perfect 9-0 record on the season
with help from Chris Ebright (Ithaca, Mich.). Ebright
was named Top Defensive Man for the Cardinals this year after
committing just four errors in 38 games.
The Coach's Award went to Justin Garcia (Bay
City, Mich./Western HS), who finished the year with a .323
batting average. The Most Improved Award went to junior Mark
Debo (Bay City, Mich./John Glenn).
Debo won two games on the mound for the Cardinals
this year striking out 21 batters. Cory Hillman
(Bay City, Mich./Western HS) was named the Brian Miller
Award Winner, for being the top student on the squad this year,
while earning his third letter for the Cards.
