St. Thomas Outslugs Cards 11-5
FORT MYERS, Fla. - The SVSU
baseball team suffered its first defeat of the season, falling
11-5 to St. Thomas University (Miami) on Wednesday. The Bobcats
knocked-off preseason number-six ranked University of Tampa twice
earlier in the season and can now lay claim to knocking-off another
Division II power.
Senior Andy Scott (Bay
City/Western) started the ballgame before being relieved by
junior Joe Kramer (Linden). The eleven-run outburst
was by far the most runs that the Cardinals' staff has given up
this season. Prior to today's game, SVSU hurlers averaged just
1.6 runs allowed per game.
A bright spot for SVSU was junior
Justin Young's (Flint/Kearsley) three-run blast,
his first homerun of the season.
The Cards will take a day off before
facing a double-dip under the lights on Friday, battling Mansfield
in game one and Lock Haven University in the nightcap.
