Goheen, Valenzuela Earn All-American Honors
Saginaw Valley State University juniors
Tim Goheen (Proton Station, Ontario) and Jason Valenzuela (Ontario,
CA) have been named to All-American honors by the American Baseball
Coaches Association.
A left-handed pitcher, Goheen set
several Cardinal records in 2000, posting 13 straight victories,
winning his first 11 decisions this season. He finished with an
11-1 record and 2.48 earned run average, setting season marks for
victories, complete games (10), and innings pitched (83.1).
He also ranks high on the Cardinal
career charts, including third in victories (20); fifth in complete
games (15) and starts (31); and sixth in strikeouts (149) and innings
(184.2).
Valenzuela, a transfer from from Mt.
San Antonio J.C., also had a record-breaking for the Cardinals.
He set school marks for highest batting average (.448) and most
hits (86), while turning a spectacular defensive season at second
base.
Goheen was "Pitcher of the Year" in
the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the North
Central All-Region team, while Valenzuela was "Player of the Year"
in the GLIAC and the region, as well as earning All-Tournament honors
as the Cardinals made their first ever appearance in the NCAA Division
II North Central Regional Tournament.
SVSU set a school record for victories
in posting a 40-11-1 record and won the GLIAC title with a 23-5-1
mark.
