Second Bachelor's Degree

SVSU welcomes students who already have a bachelor's degree and are now seeking a second bachelor's degree. Students seeking a second bachelor's degree are often known as "B2s." If you are a B2, then you will find helpful information below to guide you as you prepare to transition into SVSU.

Second Bachelor's

Apply online with the SVSU Undergraduate Application.

You can apply to Saginaw Valley State University at any point in the year. However, we strongly recommend that you apply as soon as possible.

Criteria

Official transcripts of all previous college work are required at the time of application.

To be considered for admission, you must submit the following:

  1. Completed application for admission
  2. Official transcripts from all colleges and universities previously attended

Second bachelor’s degree students are not required to attend orientation.

Once admitted through SVSU, you will receive an email with login instructions to activate an SVSU online student account at my.svsu.edu.

Second bachelor’s degree students are eligible to register at a Senior standing with 93+ credit hours completed after official transcripts have been evaluated through the Office of the Registrar. Students will then receive an official transfer equivalency report from the Office of the Registrar which will detail how each course previously taken will transfer to SVSU.

After receiving an equivalency report, students can meet with an Academic Advisor to review degree requirements and for assistance in course scheduling. To schedule an appointment with an Academic Advisor call (989) 964-4286 or email aacsvsu@svsu.edu.

Second bachelor's degree students are only required to complete courses necessary for their intended major or minor degree and any applicable prerequisite courses. Admitted second bachelor's degree students are strongly encouraged to consult with the Academic Advisement Center (ACC) about their remaining requirements.

Students are required to complete a minimum of 31 credits in order to earn a second bachelor's degree. General education requirements will be considered complete by a first bachelor's degree.

In order to qualify for financial aid, students must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program. Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form, which opens October 1st for the following school year.
